Dr. Bruce Wainright is the founder of the practice. He is originally from New Jersey, but grew up in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1968, and Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1972, from West Virginia University. Dr. Bruce began his dental practice in North Raleigh in 1972. In 1985, he built the “Wainright Centre,” a professional office complex on Falls of Neuse Road, where his practice is located. In 1998, Dr. Bruce achieved his Masters in the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD) from the Medical College of Virginia (MCV).

 Throughout his professional career, Dr. Bruce has been involved in the most cutting-edge research and technology in dentistry. He has many years of continuing education, a strong dedication to patient care, and is beloved by all who know him. By adding his son, Dr. Mark Wainright, and friend Dr. Matt Wassel, he has confidence that his long time patients have the finest oral health experience.

 With the additions and renovations of this contemporary dental office, the practice now has several amenities for patients including a coffee bar, private surgical operatories, and HD television in the waiting area and treatment rooms.

Dr. Bruce is the father of four children: Mark, Michael, Mary Allison, and the late Leslie Ann. He is an avid golfer and enjoys landscaping, riding his hybrid bicycle, reading, water skiing, and snow skiing.

Dr. Mark Wainright is a native of North Raleigh, and feels very fortunate to be a partner in his father’s dental practice, alongside his best friend, Dr. Matt Wassel. Dr. Mark obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1998, and his Master of Science degree in chemistry in 2001.

In dental school at West Virginia University, Dr. Mark and Dr. Matt forged what would become an inseparable partnership during their projects of Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) of ceramic restorations. Dr. Mark was the winner of the undergraduate award, “Excellence in Implantology,” given by the International Congress of Oral Implantology (ICOI) in 2005. Dr. Mark and Dr. Matt reached a new level of excellence in 2006 with the Tulsa-Dentsply award of “Top-50 New Dentists,” hosted by Dr. Gordon Christiansen.

Dr. Mark developed a profound interest in teaching during graduate school and was awarded “Excellence in Graduate Teaching” in 2001 from UNC Wilmington. He uses his skills in teaching to educate his patients about dental diseases, diagnoses, treatment, and prevention. Dr. Mark works hard to make each patient feel is if they are being treated like family.

 As part of his continuing education, Dr. Mark received advanced training in all disciplines of general dentistry, including CAD/CAM, orthodontic aligners, dental lasers, management of dental anxiety through conscious sedation, and Dr. Mark is trained in the surgical placement of dental implants.

 Dr. Mark is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society, the Seattle Study Club, and the International Congress of Oral Implantology.

Dr. Mark is actively involved in charity dentistry through Baptists on Mission, Wake Smiles and North Carolina Missions of Mercy. In his spare time, Dr. Mark enjoys Hurricanes hockey, NCAA Basketball, Formula 1 racing, science, cooking, and computers.

Dr. Matthew R. Wassel was born and reared in Terre Haute, Indiana, and went to High School in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Marshall University. He was accepted into West Virginia University’s doctorate program for dentists, which he completed with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree.

 During the pursuit of his doctorate, he and Dr. Mark Wainright completed an extensive research project in chair-side ceramic CAD/CAM restorations using the CEREC 3D system. Dr. Matt’s compassion for underserved patients was noteworthy in dental school, as he completed Health Right, a charity program designed to provide dental care to those without financial capability.

Since graduating from dental school, Dr. Matt has continued to educate himself in all fields of general dentistry. He has received certifications in conscious sedation dentistry, Invisalign, clear orthodontic aligners, Lumineers, prep-less ceramic veneer system, Biolase, advanced dental Nd-YAG lasers, and advanced CEREC 3-D training from the Great Lakes Education Center for the placement of single visit crowns, inlays, and onlays. In addition, Dr. Matt is an endosseous dental implant surgeon and has attended the International Congress of Implantology. He was awarded with Tulsa-Dentsply’s “Top-50 New Dentists” in 2006, with his best friend and partner, Dr. Mark Wainright.

Dr. Matt is also involved in charity dentistry through Wake Smiles, a program designed to improve the oral health of underserved members of our local community, and Project Access of Wake County. He is very patient-oriented, educates and works with every patient individually, and his patients care for him very much.

Dr. Matt is a member of Raleigh’s chapter of the Seattle Study Club for continuing education involving diagnosis and treatment planning. He is also a member of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Raleigh-Wake Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry.

He and his wife, Kristen, have two sons, Dayton and Parker. Dr. Matt enjoys golf, baseball, softball, watching all sports, and is a great chef!


Debbie Evans (Practice Administrator/VP)

Debbie has been our Practice Administrator since 2005.  She has extensive training in dental management and has been working in the dental field for over 27 years.

Debbie is a proud member of the American Association of Dental Office Management, and she serves as Co-President of the AADOM Triangle Chapter. She received her Fellowship from the American Association of Dental Office Management in the Fall of 2016 and is presently working on her mastership. Her AADOM Triangle Chapter is the largest chapter in the country and has won the “Chapter of the Year” for the last 2 years.  Debbie has been recognized nationally by being awarded AADOM’s “Practice Administrator with Distinction” for the past 3 years.

She brings a lot of expertise and nurturing to our practice, and as the staff says about her, “she is professional, yet she takes care of all of us.” She loves this practice, the staff, the patients, and calls the office her “home away from home”. Debbie and her husband Ron, have two married children, Ryan, and his wife Emily, who reside in Overland Park, KS, and Brittany, and her husband Kevin, who live in San Clemente, CA.  Debbie has 3 grandsons, Carson, Jack and Logan, and a 1 granddaughter, Ila Marie.   Debbie loves being “NaNa” and she proudly says that she’s going to be one of “THOSE” grandparents – and she loves every minute of it!

Debbie Harrell has been with the practice since 1997.  She is originally from Florida, but has lived in the Raleigh area for over 40 years.  She attended Garner High School and Wake Technical Community College.  She has worked in the dental industry for over 25 years.

Debbie is the dental insurance guru, and patients know to call her whenever there is a question about their insurance.  She finds great satisfaction in getting claims paid after they have been denied.  She enjoys working with Drs. Wainright & Wassel, and says she cannot imagine her life without working in this practice.  She says that she works for four wonderful doctors who are all fabulous at what they do.

Debbie enjoys her newest hobby, playing golf with her husband, Doug. When she’s not at work, you can find Debbie swimming, tanning, socializing at the Garner Country Club, or spending time with her adorable dog, Dixie.

Jackie is originally from upstate New York and has lived in the Raleigh area for over 20 years.  Jackie is very creative, organized, and known for her incredible memory.  She is responsible for all the new patients and the hygiene schedule.

She is married to Marcus, and they have 2 beautiful daughters.  Jackie also has a darling Yorkshire terrier, named Oliver.  Jackie loves decorating, party planning, trying new recipes,  and spending time with her family.

Jessica is originally from Gettysburg, PA and attended Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications.

She then worked as a dental assistant for two years in her

hometown before moving to North Carolina for the opportunity to work as a Patient Care Coordinator at Wainright and Wassel DDS, where she gets to combine two of her passions: dentistry and communications. Jessica also promotes office events as the Social Media Specialist, by posting on our office’s Facebook page and Instagram account. In her spare time, she likes to take advantage of the beautiful North Carolina weather by spending as much time outside as possible with her husband, Cody, and their dog, Gator.

Jessie is originally from West Hills, California, and has lived in Raleigh since 1992. She brings a lot of enthusiasm and natural talent to the practice. She acquired her background in patient care before dentistry as a board-certified bodywork and massage therapist.

Jessie has been with the practice since 2006, and loves working with the team and patients. She has a passion for dental insurance and coding. She is friendly, knowledgeable, and enjoys coordinating our charity program with Wake Smiles through Project Access.

Jessie celebrated her marriage to her husband, Vinnie, in 2012. She enjoys cooking and spending time with her friends, family and her two little girls.

Before coming to Wainright & Wassel, she received her Certified Nursing Assistant Degree in 2017 from Trident Technical College in Charleston, South Carolina, and recently moved to Raleigh in 2018. Kate has found an unexpected passion for insurance, and enjoys helping our patients understand and maximize their dental benefits.

Kate has a son, Noah, and enjoys taking him to the Marbles Kids Museum. She is also a dedicated Pittsburgh Steelers fan and love rooting for them throughout the season.

Born in Manila, Philippines, Kay spent most of her childhood in San Diego, and has lived in Raleigh since 1997.

Kay attended NC State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education.  Kay has been with the practice since 2012.  She enjoys working with patients on dental insurance billing and claims, and is responsible for new patients and check-in duties.

Kay and her husband welcomed their son in March 2018.  Kay enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing tennis, church activities, cooking, and traveling!

Ashley is a native North Carolinian and a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill. She is currently working on completing her Bachelor Degree in Health Science. She is a member of the American Dental Assistant Association. She routinely volunteers her time at dental clinics.

Ashley has been a patient of Wainright & Wassel DDS since the age of four. It was only fitting that Ashley join our team! With her great work ethic and positive attitude, she is a great fit with our wonderful staff.

Ashley is very close with her family. She never misses the yearly tradition of Tennessee football games with her dad. She enjoys spending her free time with her husband and their dog, Lily.

Christopher is originally from Bronx, NY.  He moved to Raleigh to be with his family and pursue his dreams of a career in dentistry.  Christopher is in training to become a DA1 and progress to a DAII.  He is a loved member of our team and our hygienists rely on him to make sure that everything is perfectly prepared for our patients.  He prides himself on making sure that everything runs smoothly.

In his spare time, Christopher likes to work out, read books, write poetry, and shop.  He also enjoys eating, going to movies, and playing video games.  He loves to worship God and spend time with his family and friends.

Debra is a native North Carolinian from Oxford, NC.  She is a graduate of J.F. Webb High School, studied at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, for two years, and graduated from the dental assisting program at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.  She has been a certified dental assistant for nearly 35 years.  Debra brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the practice.

Debra is a member of the American Dental Assistants Association.  As a testament to her good nature and dedication to dentistry, Debra loves developing relationships with our patients and making a difference in their lives by helping to meet their dental goals and needs.  She enjoys working with funny, caring, and dedicated people every day.  Debra always greets patients with a smile, and makes sure that they leave with a smile, too!

She has been married to her husband, Royce, for over 24 years.  Debra loves to travel, hike, and go camping.  One of her favorite things to do is to be on the back of a motorcycle with Royce!  She also sings in the choir at Mt. Creek Baptist Church.

Ilene was born in Manila, Philippines and raised on the beautiful island of Guam!

In 1998, Ilene graduated from Concorde Career Institute in North Hollywood, CA, and moved to North Carolina in 2003. She has been a dental assistant for 18 years and loves dentistry! She enjoys the interaction with every patient, and looks forward to working with patients achieve their smile!

One of Ilene’s greatest person achievements was when she decided to go back to school to receive her Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting in 2011. She and her husband, Brian, have 2 children, Brandon and Isabella. In her spare time, she loves to spend time with her family and friends, and travel when they can. She loves to clean (I find it therapeutic) and cooking Filipino dishes.

Kady is a Raleigh native and attended Wake Technical Community College for school. Starting as a sterilization technician, she has been working in the dental field for 5 years and joined our practice in April 2019. Kady is very passionate about dentistry and strives to make her patients feel comfortable at Wainright and Wassel.

Kady married her husband Jonny in 2016, and they have a dog named Whiskey. They love to travel and spend time with family and friends.

As a testament to Kim’s dedication to our practice, she has worked here for over 28 years, and is a lifetime member of the American Dental Assistants Association. Kim is an invaluable asset to the practice because of her patient knowledge, patient relationships, and great sense of humor.

Kim and her husband, Clint, have one daughter, Sydney. Kim loves to laugh, travel, read, and cook. She enjoys spending time with her family at Lake Norman and is a die hard West Virginia fan. Go Mountaineers!

Loren is originally from Newport News, Virginia. She and her family moved to Raleigh when she was seven years old and has been a long-time patient of Wainright and Wassel DDS ever since.

Throughout high school and college, Loren was a skilled trampoline and tumbling gymnast while having a passion for art. As a recent graduate of Wake Technical Community College’s Dental Assisting Program, Loren earned her title of a Certified Dental Assistant and began working at Wainright and Wassel soon after. She enjoys creating art, specifically painting, and spending time with her friends and family outside of work. Loren looks forward to sharing her passion of giving everyone a reason to smile bigger every day.

Sheree began her career in dentistry as a sterilization technician in 2008. Her newfound interest in dentistry, outstanding work ethic and ability to learn quickly prompted her to obtain her Certification as a Dental Assistant in 2010 after receiving on-the-job training classes offered through Wake Tech, UNC-Chapel Hill and Wake AHEC.

Sheree also enjoys baking for her business Dis, Dat, and More Sweet Treats in her spare time as well as spending time with her daughter, Samaria, and her fiancé, Ahmad.

Dr. Kelly Prettyman is a Raleigh native and went to Sanderson High School. She attended North Carolina State University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Zoology and a minor in Spanish. She received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduating from dental school, she continued her dental education in a General Practice Residency at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Washington, DC.

Dr. Kelly continues to advance her dental education as an active member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society, and the Seattle Study Club.

She is thrilled to have partnered with two exceptional dentists and hopes to facilitate a smooth transition through Dr. Bruce’s retirement. Dr. Kelly truly enjoys the personal interaction with each and every one of her patients and strives to make your dental experience pleasant and comfortable.

Dr. Mark V. Wainright, DDS, MS

Dr. Mark Wainright is a Raleigh native and holds a Bachelor of Science from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Dr. Wainright obtained his Master of Science in chemistry with a graduate thesis in inorganic chemistry where he wrote Labilization of Nitrosyl by Phosphines, an NMR Study of Cyclopentadienyl Complexes of Rhenium. In 2001, Dr. Wainright was awarded “Graduate Teaching Excellence”, and he uses his skills at disseminating information to educate his patients about their oral health.

Following graduate school, Dr. Wainright achieved his doctorate in dental surgery from West Virginia University. Dr. Wainright was awarded the pre-doctorate award, “Excellence in Implantology” in 2005. Dr. Wainright and Dr. Matt Wassel were both nominated for the Tulsa award, “Top-50 New Dentists” in 2006 hosted by Dr. Gordon Christensen.

Dr. Resham Patel comes to us from Richlands, VA, where she earned her Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Virginia where she discovered her passion for dentistry. She went on to complete her dental school training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, PA. After completing four years of training at UPenn, she went on to further specialize her skills in a two year general practice residency at New York Presbyterian/Cornell Hospital in New York City.

During her second year of residency, Dr. Patel served as Chief Resident while completing training in pediatrics, cosmetics, complex restorative including implant dentistry, endodontics, and the management of medically compromised patients.

Dr. Patel currently serves as an active member of several organizations including: the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society and the Seattle Study Club. She is also Sirona Cerec trained and a certified Invisalign provider.

Dr. Patel spent the last several years practicing dentistry in Manhattan before ultimately deciding to continue her career down south. She now lives in Durham, NC with her husband, Nick, and their miniature dachshund, Sophie. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending quality time with family and friends.

Ali was born and raised in Garner, NC and graduated from Enloe High School. She received her Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene at Wayne Community College in 2016 where she also served as the Student Government Representative for her hygiene class. Ali is a member of the American Dental Association.

One of her favorite things about working as a dental hygienist is building relationships with her patients while educating them about their oral health. In her free time, Ali enjoys visiting her family in Kentucky, going to the beach and playing with her adorable dog, Petey. She also enjoys deer hunting, and has been doing so since she was 11 years old.  Ali is very active in her church and enjoys attending weekly bible study with her friends. She bought a house in February 2019 in Garner with her boyfriend, Jeff.

Christy is a native of southern Nash County where she attended Southern Nash High School. She then graduated in 2015 from Halifax Community College in Weldon, NC, with an Associate’s degree in Applied Science in Dental Hygiene. She is a member of the American Dental Hygiene Association.

Christy’s husband, Matt, was also born and raised in southern Nash County where they plan to raise their two beautiful daughters, Jordyn and Carter. As a family, they enjoy cooking, going to the beach, the mountains and Disney World. Christy joined our team in 2019 and looks forward to helping you and your whole family, meet your oral health needs! In her free time, Christy enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and pulling for the Tarheels!

Heather is a native of Barre, Vermont, and moved to Raleigh in 2006. She attended the University of Vermont, where she received an applied science degree in dental hygiene. Heather is known for her gentle touch and her quiet and comforting voice. She is a true professional, as patients feel very relaxed with her. Heather has also volunteered on the dental bus at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds.

She feels as though working at Wainright and Wassel, D.D.S. is her “home away from home.” Heather has been with us since 2006.

Heather and her husband, Brian, have a son, Mason, and a daughter, McKenna. They also have their lovable family dog, Bodie. Heather loves to bake, and desserts and breakfast pastries are her specialties!


Karyn, RDH

Karyn is a North Carolina native and considers herself a Tar Heel for life! She is a geographically well-rounded North Carolinian – born at the beach, moved to the Triangle and attended college in the mountains. She graduated from Lees-McRae College with a Bachelor’s of Science in biology in 2010 and then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, obtaining a Bachelor’s of Science in dental hygiene in 2012. She joined our practice in 2012 and continues to develop a lasting rapport with all of her patients.

Karyn is an avid runner and hope to complete a half marathon in all 50 states one day. She has completed half marathons in 9 states so far, with a personal record in Tennessee and her bucket list race at the Grand Canyon. In her free time, Karyn enjoys being active outside through running and hiking, going to the beach, reading and doing puzzles, spending time with her family and being an active member at her church.

Karyn is a member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and is currently serving as the recording secretary for the North Carolina Dental Hygienists’ Association. She has previously served as a chair for Durham-Orange and Greater Raleigh components of NCDHA and as a continuing education co-chair for the North Carolina Dental Hygiene Academy of Advanced Studies.

Kathryn was born and raised in Greenville, NC, home of the ECU Pirates! She attended East Carolina University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Education. She then received her applied science degree in Dental Hygiene at Wayne Community College where she served as president of her Dental Hygiene class.

Kathryn and her husband, Kyle, welcomed their son, Thompson, in July 2018. They also have two adorable fur babies, a Labradoodle named Finley and a Shih-poo named Addie.

In her spare time, Kathryn loves spending time at the beach with her family and friends. She also enjoys cooking and trying out new recipes she finds on Pinterest.

Kristin is originally from West Virginia and forever a Mountaineer. She started working at Wainright & Wassel DDS in 2007 shortly after she moved to Raleigh. Kristin received a bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene from West Virginia University in 2006, and a master’s degree in Dental Hygiene Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014.

Since her time in graduate school, Kristin has pursued training on the management of dental patients with sleep apnea. Her clinical research, “Patient response to sleep apnea screening in a dental practice” was awarded the AADSM Research Excellence Award and was recently published in the Journal of Public Health Dentistry. Under the direction of our dentists, Kristin helps manage the sleep apnea program at Wainright & Wassel DDS, which offers oral appliance therapy as an alternative to CPAP. Kristin is a member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and West Virginia University School of Dentistry Alumni Association. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at UNC- Chapel Hill School of Dentistry and also educates dental staff on screening and managing patients with sleep apnea through various educational programs across the country.

Kristin and her husband, Nelson, welcomed their first child, Shepherd, in July 2019. They enjoy spending time on their farm with their dog, Milo. They also love traveling and West Virginia football.


Susan, RDH

Susan is a native of Virginia, but moved here when she was young, and now calls North Carolina home. She attended Sanderson High School and has been in the dental field since 2000. She started her career as a certified dental assistant and later received an Applied Science degree in dental hygiene from Wake Technical Community College. Susan enjoys patient care; helping each person that sits in her chair feel more confident in their smile. She says it is very rewarding to see a patient learn to take better care of their mouth.  Susan volunteers for charity dentistry events, such as Mission of Mercy, the NC Dental Bus, and Dentistry for the Heart. She received the Community Dental Award in her hygiene class, showing her sincere passion for helping others improve their oral health.

Susan loves to exercise and is involved in her church. She enjoys spending time with her high school sweet heart and husband, Ashbey, and their three children, Noelle, Hampton, and Brooklynn. They have an adorable maltipoo named Tinkerbell. They also love the beach, and taking trips to visit Mickey and Minnie.
