
Dr. Mark Wainright, D.D.S., M.S., F.A.G.D.
Dr. Mark Wainright is a Raleigh native and holds a Bachelor of Science from The University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He’s among the finest in our dentist roster. Dr. Wainright obtained his Master of Science in chemistry with a graduate thesis in inorganic synthesis. In 2001, Dr. Wainright wrote and defended Labilization of Nitrosyl by Phosphines, an NMR Study of Cyclopentadienyl Complexes of Rhenium. In graduate school Dr. Wainright was awarded “Graduate Teaching Excellence”, and he uses his skills at disseminating information to educate his patients about their oral health.
Following graduate school, Dr. Wainright achieved his doctorate in dental surgery from West Virginia University where he was awarded the pre-doctorate achievement award, “Excellence in Implantology”. Following his doctorate, Dr. Wainright was nominated for the Tulsa award, “Top-50 New Dentists” by Dr. Gordon Christensen.
As part of his continuing education, Dr. Wainright has received advanced training in Invisalign®, CEREC® CAD/CAM dental restorations, 3-D X-ray imaging, dental lasers, the management of dental anxiety through conscious sedation, and he is trained in the surgical placement and restoration of dental implants. Most recently Dr. Wainright achieved Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry, an award which requires expertise in 17 disciplines of dentistry and a distinction that only 6% of dentists hold.
Dr. Wainright is a member of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society, the Seattle Study Club, and a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry.

In his spare time, Dr. Wainright enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, Hurricanes hockey, NCAA basketball, Formula 1 racing, science & technology, cooking, and computers.

Dr. Matthew Wassel, D.D.S.
Dr. Matthew R. Wassel was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, and after 14 years, moved to Point Pleasant, WV where he attended high school. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Marshall University. He was accepted into West Virginia University’s doctorate program for dentists, which he completed with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree.
During the pursuit of his doctorate, he and Dr. Mark Wainright completed an extensive research project in chair-side ceramic CAD/CAM restorations using the CEREC 3D system. Dr. Matt’s compassion for underserved patients was noteworthy in dental school, as he completed Health Right, a charity program designed to provide dental care to those without financial capability.
Since graduating from dental school, Dr. Matt has continued to educate himself in all fields of general dentistry. He has received certifications in conscious sedation dentistry, Invisalign, advanced dental Nd-YAG lasers, and advanced CEREC 3-D training from the Great Lakes Education Center for the placement of single visit crowns, inlays, and onlays. In addition, Dr. Matt is an endosseous dental implant surgeon and has attended the International Congress of Implantology. He was awarded with Tulsa-Dentsply’s “Top-50 New Dentists” in 2006, with his best friend and partner, Dr. Mark Wainright.
Dr. Matt is also involved in charity dentistry through Wake Smiles, a program designed to improve the oral health of underserved members of our local community, and Project Access of Wake County. He is very patient-oriented, educates and works with every patient individually, and his patients care for him very much. He’s one of the best in our dentist team.
Dr. Matt is a member of Raleigh’s chapter of the Seattle Study Club for continuing education involving diagnosis and treatment planning. He is also a member of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Raleigh-Wake Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry.
He and his wife, Kristen, have two sons, Dayton and Parker. Dr. Matt enjoys playing golf, baseball, basketball, and watching all sports. He classifies himself as a “foodie” and loves to cook! He is also an avid WVU fan. Let’s go Mountaineers!

Dr. Kelly Prettyman, D.D.S.
Dr. Kelly Prettyman is a Raleigh native and went to Sanderson High School. She attended North Carolina State University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Zoology and a minor in Spanish. She received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduating from dental school, she continued her dental education in a General Practice Residency at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Washington, DC. She’s distinguished in our dentist team.
Dr. Kelly continues to advance her dental education as an active member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society, and the Seattle Study Club.
She is thrilled to have partnered with two exceptional dentists and hopes to facilitate a smooth transition through Dr. Bruce’s retirement. Dr. Kelly truly enjoys the personal interaction with each and every one of her patients and strives to make your dental experience pleasant and comfortable.

Dr. Emily Pope, D.D.S.

Dr. Emily Pope grew up in Wilson, North Carolina before moving to the triangle for college. A two-time tar heel graduate, Dr. Pope earned both her undergraduate degree and dental education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As an undergraduate student at UNC, Dr. Pope graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Before returning for her Doctorate of Dental Surgery, Dr. Pope served in many roles at a pediatric dental office here in Raleigh. Her experience there and her involvement with the Raleigh community led her to return here following graduation.
Dr. Pope is eager to continue her dental education and has attended various continuing education courses, because providing patients with quality care is of the utmost importance to her. She Is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society, and the Seattle Study Club.
She is elated to join the team at Wainright & Wassell and can’t wait to meet and earn the trust of the wonderful patients here. Dr. Pope is invested in making her patients’ experience enjoyable and advocating for their best oral health. By listening to her patients’ concerns and educating them about their conditions and options, she strives to empower her patients to achieve superior oral health. She’s recognized as one of our dentist team’s premier members.
In her free time, the newly-engaged Dr. Pope loves traveling and exploring new restaurants in the area with her fiancé, Wes. When she isn’t spending the weekend in Raleigh, she enjoys visiting with her parents in Oak Island.
