Dr. Bruce Wainright is the founder of the practice. He is originally from New Jersey, but grew up in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1968, and Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1972, from West Virginia University. Dr. Bruce began his dental practice in North Raleigh in 1972. In 1985, he built the “Wainright Centre,” a professional office complex on Falls of Neuse Road, where his practice is located. In 1998, Dr. Bruce achieved his Masters in the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD) from the Medical College of Virginia (MCV).
Throughout his professional career, Dr. Bruce has been involved in the most cutting-edge research and technology in dentistry. He has many years of continuing education, a strong dedication to patient care, and is beloved by all who know him. By adding his son, Dr. Mark Wainright, and friend Dr. Matt Wassel, he has confidence that his long time patients have the finest oral health experience.
With the additions and renovations of this contemporary dental office, the practice now has several amenities for patients including a coffee bar, private surgical operatories, and HD television in the waiting area and treatment rooms.
Dr. Bruce is the father of four children: Mark, Michael, Mary Allison, and the late Leslie Ann. He is an avid golfer and enjoys landscaping, riding his hybrid bicycle, reading, water skiing, and snow skiing.
Dr. Mark Wainright is a native of North Raleigh, and feels very fortunate to be a partner in his father’s dental practice, alongside his best friend, Dr. Matt Wassel. Dr. Mark obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1998, and his Master of Science degree in chemistry in 2001.
In dental school at West Virginia University, Dr. Mark and Dr. Matt forged what would become an inseparable partnership during their projects of Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) of ceramic restorations. Dr. Mark was the winner of the undergraduate award, “Excellence in Implantology,” given by the International Congress of Oral Implantology (ICOI) in 2005. Dr. Mark and Dr. Matt reached a new level of excellence in 2006 with the Tulsa-Dentsply award of “Top-50 New Dentists,” hosted by Dr. Gordon Christiansen.
Dr. Mark developed a profound interest in teaching during graduate school and was awarded “Excellence in Graduate Teaching” in 2001 from UNC Wilmington. He uses his skills in teaching to educate his patients about dental diseases, diagnoses, treatment, and prevention. Dr. Mark works hard to make each patient feel is if they are being treated like family.
As part of his continuing education, Dr. Mark received advanced training in all disciplines of general dentistry, including CAD/CAM, orthodontic aligners, dental lasers, management of dental anxiety through conscious sedation, and Dr. Mark is trained in the surgical placement of dental implants.
Dr. Mark is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society, the Seattle Study Club, and the International Congress of Oral Implantology.
Dr. Mark is actively involved in charity dentistry through Baptists on Mission, Wake Smiles and North Carolina Missions of Mercy. In his spare time, Dr. Mark enjoys Hurricanes hockey, NCAA Basketball, Formula 1 racing, science, cooking, and computers.
Dr. Matthew R. Wassel was born and reared in Terre Haute, Indiana, and went to High School in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Marshall University. He was accepted into West Virginia University’s doctorate program for dentists, which he completed with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree.
During the pursuit of his doctorate, he and Dr. Mark Wainright completed an extensive research project in chair-side ceramic CAD/CAM restorations using the CEREC 3D system. Dr. Matt’s compassion for underserved patients was noteworthy in dental school, as he completed Health Right, a charity program designed to provide dental care to those without financial capability.
Since graduating from dental school, Dr. Matt has continued to educate himself in all fields of general dentistry. He has received certifications in conscious sedation dentistry, Invisalign, clear orthodontic aligners, Lumineers, prep-less ceramic veneer system, Biolase, advanced dental Nd-YAG lasers, and advanced CEREC 3-D training from the Great Lakes Education Center for the placement of single visit crowns, inlays, and onlays. In addition, Dr. Matt is an endosseous dental implant surgeon and has attended the International Congress of Implantology. He was awarded with Tulsa-Dentsply’s “Top-50 New Dentists” in 2006, with his best friend and partner, Dr. Mark Wainright.
Dr. Matt is also involved in charity dentistry through Wake Smiles, a program designed to improve the oral health of underserved members of our local community, and Project Access of Wake County. He is very patient-oriented, educates and works with every patient individually, and his patients care for him very much.
Dr. Matt is a member of Raleigh’s chapter of the Seattle Study Club for continuing education involving diagnosis and treatment planning. He is also a member of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Raleigh-Wake Dental Society, and the Academy of General Dentistry.
He and his wife, Kristen, have two sons, Dayton and Parker. Dr. Matt enjoys golf, baseball, softball, watching all sports, and is a great chef!
Dr. Kelly Prettyman, DDS
Dr. Kelly Prettyman is a Raleigh native and went to Sanderson High School. She attended North Carolina State University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Zoology and a minor in Spanish. She received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduating from dental school, she continued her dental education in a General Practice Residency at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Washington, DC.
Dr. Kelly continues to advance her dental education as an active member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society, and the Seattle Study Club.
She is thrilled to have partnered with two exceptional dentists and hopes to facilitate a smooth transition through Dr. Bruce’s retirement. Dr. Kelly truly enjoys the personal interaction with each and every one of her patients and strives to make your dental experience pleasant and comfortable.
When she is not busy taking care of her patients, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband, Drew, and their dogs, Penny and Finley.
